Tractor trolley accident kills 24

NEW DELHI, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- A tractor pulling a trolley loaded with people fell into a deep ravine in India after its driver lost control, killing at least 24 people, police said.

At least 22 more people were injured, some of them seriously, in the Monday night incident near Bargawa village in the northern Uttar Pradesh state's Sitapur district, the Press Trust of India reported.

Twelve victims died at the scene and the other 12 died in area hospitals, the report said.

Authorities told PTI the driver lost control of the vehicle when he tried to overtake another vehicle.

The BBC reported about 70 people were packed in the trolley and that most of the victims were women and children.
