KABUL, July 14 (UPI Asia) – At least 22 people including a member of Parliament were killed and 40 injured in a suicide bomb attack at a wedding in northern Afghanistan Saturday.
The attack occurred Saturday morning at a wedding hall in Aibak city in northern Afghan province of Samangan and killed Afghan Parliament member Ahmad Khan Samangani and 21 others, provincial officials said.
Many senior provincial officials including the provincial intelligence chief were also killed in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban insurgents are fighting Western-backed Afghan government of President Hamid Karzai since the Taliban government was removed from power by U.S.-led forces in 2001. The insurgents have claimed responsibility for a number of suicide attacks in the country in the past.
