Published By United Press International
HEFEI, China, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A 31-year-old man was arrested in eastern China for making a fake bomb threat, prompting the plane to make an emergency landing, officials said.

The incident happened Thursday morning, Xinhua reported.

The man, identified by his surname as Chen, called the Hefei Luogang International Airport and said there were explosives on flight ZH9786 to Shenzhen.

Police said the man was trying to stop his girlfriend, who was on the flight, from leaving Hefei.

The plane landed at Nanchang Changbei International Airport and, after a thorough investigation, was determined to be free of explosives. The plane left Nanchang at 11:45 a.m.
