ISTANBUL, Turkey, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- A street cleaner in Istanbul discovered a cluster bomb under a car Friday, averting a possible explosion, police said.

The worker told police he found a suspicious package under a car while cleaning a street in the Bayrampasa neighborhood about 2 a.m.

He gave the package to police officers on patrol on the area, who then summoned the bomb squad.

The vehicle under which the bomb was found belonged to a security officer, police said, adding that a large number of police officers live in the neighborhood.
