BEIJING, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A suspect was in custody after 22 children and an adult were injured in a knife attack at a grade school in China's Henan province Friday, officials said.
Several of the children were hospitalized in critical condition, local authorities said.
Police said the suspect, 36-year-old Min Yinjun, attacked the children at the entrance of Chenpeng Village Primary School in Xinyang village, Xinhua reported.
China was hit by a rash of knife and cleaver attacks on schoolchildren in 2010. The attacks led to the introduction of legislation that increased security at schools across the country, and a regulation requiring people to register when buying large knives, CNN reported.
