Boeing submits helicopter bid to India

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Boeing announced its submission of two contract proposals for an Indian air force competition for attack and heavy-lift helicopters.

Indian defense officials have called on the international defense community to submit bids on contracts for procuring 22 attack helicopters and 15 transport helicopters.

U.S. company Boeing says its Integrated Defense Systems unit has submitted a proposal that includes its AH-64D Apache Longbow to address the Indian attack helicopter requirements and a proposal with its CH-47F Chinook designed for India's heavy-lift helicopter competition.

"Boeing believes the Apache and Chinook helicopters are the most capable and cost-effective rotorcraft to meet India's defense and transport requirements," Vivek Lall, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems vice president and India country head, said in a statement.

"The Apache will be a capable and lethal defender of India's troops and assets, while the Chinook will answer many of the country's military and humanitarian needs."

India has not release official dates for contract proposal selections.
