Society should unite to fight crime


Dhaka, Bangladesh, January 09 — The wife of a Christian Church pastor at Moksedur Gopalgonj in Bangladesh was gang rapped by a group of 8 to 9 people on January 5, 2009. The incident has shocked and stunned residents. The incident is also a wake-up call for the society to unite and fight against such atrocities.

The group, heavily armed, stormed into the room of the Pastor of Chaksin Baptist Church late in the night and tied the pastor. The pastor's wife while returning from the washroom was then gang raped. After around an hour the perpetrators looted the house and left. A

The pastor’s wife was admitted in Moksedur Hospital in a serious condition and later shifted to the Gopalgonj Sadar Hospital.

Two separate cases were filed with the police.The police has already arrested two suspects Ilyas Mridha (50) and Sunil Barai (40) for the assault, at a church in Noyakandi Chakshin under Muksudpur upazila relating to the case.

Human rights activist and the executive director of International Human Rights organization CDA, William Gomes talked with the officer-in-charge of Moksedur Police station Mohammed Liakot Ali and requested him to secure the family.

Besides the law enforcement agencies, society should also unite and stand up to crimes against humanity.
