Obama as a Muslim?

Bangalore, India, October 28 — First, The New Yorker cartoon, and now subtle emails and blogs: they are making Obama look like he is a Muslim. This has actually raised the previously dormant fears of older white Americans.

Everyone remembers the boxer Cassius Clay, later called Mohamed Ali. There was also the incident at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, where two African American athletes gave a raised fist salute in support of the Black Power movement, when the U.S. national anthem was being played. People may say that this is a long forgotten story for most Americans. For young Americans, it may be, but not for the older, retired and gray-haired generation.

It also revives the old Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad theories that all African Americans are logically Muslims, even though they are in fact practicing Christians. The church to which Obama belonged and its preacher come under this category and reinforce this myth.

Everyone knows Obama is NOT a Muslim. Then why the subtle campaign? Basically, it forces him to defend himself that he is not Muslim and thereby takes away the aura that he has created for himself, revealing that he is a only a politician and not the charismatic visionary that the younger crowd sees him as, especially among the liberals and Muslims.

Obama’s campaign has been hard at work dispelling the myth that Obama is a Muslim. Are the vast majority of Americans willing to admit that they look at Muslims with suspicion? In his efforts to debunk this myth, Obama has unintentionally made Muslim Americans into outcasts of a sort. His pro-Israel stance is truly disappointing for American Muslims who, like Muslims everywhere, owe loyalty to Muslim Ummah and are against Israel.

Obama’s campaign managers refused to let Muslim American women wearing the hijab sit behind Obama at a speech in Michigan, even though Michigan has the largest population of Muslims in America. Rep. Keith Ellison wanted to endorse Obama at a mosque in Iowa, an event his managers wisely refused.

Obama is the candidate who is offering the restoration of principles America was founded upon: social justice and equality. Now, with Obama’s aura of being a Christian, this may no longer be the case, and he may even come to be seen as an ordinary politician who wants to be elected.

Obama's race speech made him a visionary. Now he just has to say that America is the greatest nation in the world, where an African American, with the history of the following act of Virginia in 1670, could aim to be president through votes cast by mostly white men and women:

LAWS OF VIRGINIA, NOVEMBER, 1682−−−34th CHARLES II.*
"WHEREAS by the 12th act of assembly held at James City the 3rd day of October, Anno Domini 1670, entitled an act declaring who shall be slaves, it is enacted that all servants not being Christians, being imported into this country by shipping shall be slaves, but what shall come by land shall serve if boys and girls until thirty years of age, if men or women, twelve years and no longer; and for as much as many negroes, Moors, mulattoes and others born of and in heathenish, idolatrous, pagan and Mahometan parentage and country have heretofore … and it is enacted by the authority aforesaid, that all the said recited act of the third of October 1670 be, and is hereby repealed and made utterly void to all intents and purposes whatsoever. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid that all servants except Turks and Moors, whilst in amity with his majesty which from and after publication of this act shall be brought or imported into this country, either by sea or land, whether Negroes, Moors, Mulattoes or Indians, who and whose parentage and native country are not Christian at the time of their first purchase of such servant by some Christian, although afterwards, and before such their importation and bringing into this country, they shall be converted to the Christian faith; and all Indians which shall hereafter be sold by our neighboring Indians, or any other trafficking with us as for slaves are hereby adjudged, deemed and taken, and shall be adjudged, deemed and taken to be slaves to all intents."

Obama could even say, ‘I may not be a Muslim, but I want every American Muslim to abjure their loyalty to the Muslim Ummah and aim to be President of America.’ This will put the ball in the court of American Muslims, who have to face the fact that America’s national interest demands that it provide security to the State of Israel at any cost. This includes the miserable human rights record of Israel and may also include the dismantling of the Wahhabi regime in Saudi Arabia or even the annihilation of Shiite Iran.

An American Muslim will be forced to ponder whether he prefers the caves of Waziristan, in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas, or whether he wants his children to study and grow up in America, where they can drive SUVs or even aim to be the President of America.
