Anti-war demonstrations in Iran universities

Tehran, Iran, January 05 — Students from various Universities in Iran are continuing their anti war demonstrations against Israel’s attack on Gaza. Demonstrations have taken place in various places like university campuses, in front of foreign embassies and the U.N. office in capital Tehran.

Iranian schools and university students in all 28 provinces are stepping up their objections on Israel's continuous attacks on Gaza. They want Israel to stop the attacks immediately.

A lot of teenagers and even infants participated in many different gatherings. Placards with slogans saying, “Stop the child killing," “Stop the War” and “My sister and brother we are with you," were held by demonstrators. Different groups of demonstrators and students object the Israeli action and their anti-war demonstrations shows that they are very upset and sad about this war.

“This war is unequal and oppressive, and non-military people, infants and women are under attack,” said Ali Mojarrad, a 16-year-old student who held a placard with the slogan “Stop the War,” during a gathering of students in Philistine Square in Tehran.

Another 19-year-old student said, “We need peace in Middle East and we cannot be patient when children and women are being killed.”

“Being Muslim is in second place. The most important point is this: They (the Palestinians) are humans, they need home, peace, water, medicine and this is their right to live in peace and spend their holidays with their family,” said Hassein, his eyes filled with tears.

Another demonstration was held at a university in Iran even as Israeli fighters bombed a school in Gaza. Among hundreds of Iranian students there, I also saw some Chinese, Japanese and European students who were shouting in support of the Iranian students.

Paual Plair was one, who is studying international law. He said, “Today I am here to say that all of us are humans and we cannot kill other people especially non-military people, infants and women. The men who are killing in Gaza are humans like us and also need the basic materials for living like us."

Jewish children and students also gathered in support for the people of Gaza and objected to the Israeli action. A Jewish member of Parliament in a speech to Parliament members who were also demonstrating said, “We don’t support Israel attacks on Gaza strip and it’s non-military people and we support Gaza’s people and say that we are with them."

Demonstrations against Israel attacks in Gaza are continuing in different places in Iran and students say that they will stop their agitations only when Israel stops its attacks.
